LIXIE screw type replaceable urethane faces are included on all LIXIE hammers. They are available in six sizes,  ranging in hardness in each size. This permits custom fitting a LIXIE hammer to your individual requirements. Impervious to oils and mostly solvents, these solid urethane faces have a high impact absorption, yet will not mar, peen or deform the struck surface. Their wear and performance characteristics are significantly superior to other commonly used materials such as lead, rawhide, rubber, etc. Each  hardness is color coded, for convenience. 

LIXIE faces conform dimensionally to Federal Specification GGG-H-33A, and their performance characteristics exceed the minimum requirements. The face screw are molded and held in the urethane by a custom designed vane type head, and integral part of the screw.

Many times  LIXIE handles are damaged during their use, however Genuine LIXIE replacement hickory handle kits can extend the life of the tool. They are constructed out of the same Grade A hickory to the exact factory dimensional specifications for proper installation.
